TCS Interview Questions 2026: Technical, Managerial & HR Rounds

Clearing the TCS NQT gets you an interview, not an offer. The interview is where most candidates lose marks, usually because they memorised definitions instead of practising how to explain their own projects. Here is what each round looks for and how to answer.

How the TCS interview is usually structured

For campus and off-campus hiring, the interview after the NQT is commonly a combined panel covering technical, managerial and HR questions, sometimes split into separate rounds. Experienced hires typically face a technical round with a project deep-dive, then managerial and HR discussions.

Selection steps and test sections change between hiring drives. Always confirm the current pattern on the company's official careers page or your drive invitation before you prepare.

Technical questions to prepare

  1. Walk me through your final-year project. What exactly did you build?
  2. What is the difference between a process and a thread?
  3. Explain OOP concepts with an example from code you have written.
  4. Write a program to reverse a string / check a palindrome / find the second-largest number.
  5. What is normalisation? Write a SQL query to find the second-highest salary.
  6. What happens when you type a URL into a browser?
  7. Which language are you most comfortable in, and why?

Interviewers usually go deeper on whatever you put on your resume. If you list Python, expect Python questions. Remove anything you cannot explain for two minutes.

Managerial round questions

  • Tell me about a time you worked in a team and something went wrong.
  • How would you handle a deadline you know you cannot meet?
  • If your manager gives you a task in a technology you don't know, what do you do?
  • Describe a situation where you had to convince someone.

HR round questions

  • Tell me about yourself.
  • Why TCS?
  • Are you willing to relocate and work in shifts?
  • Do you have any other offers?
  • Where do you see yourself in five years?

How to answer project questions

Use a 4-part shape: the problem, what you personally did, one technical decision you made and why, and the result. Saying 'we' for everything makes it hard for the panel to score you.

A 7-day practice plan

  1. Day 1–2: Rewrite your project explanation and practise it out loud in under two minutes.
  2. Day 3–4: Revise OOP, DBMS, OS and networking basics, plus 10 common coding programs.
  3. Day 5: Prepare 4 STAR stories for managerial questions.
  4. Day 6: Prepare HR answers, especially 'Tell me about yourself' and 'Why TCS'.
  5. Day 7: Run a full mock interview and fix your weakest answer.
