Deloitte Interview Preparation: Consulting, Audit & Tech Tracks

Deloitte runs three very different interview processes under one brand — Consulting (S&O, Human Capital, Strategy), Audit & Assurance, and USI/GDS Tech. Preparing for the wrong one is the most common reason candidates get rejected from a firm that would otherwise have made an offer.

Which Deloitte are you interviewing with?

  • Deloitte Consulting (S&O/M&A/Strategy): 2–3 case interviews + 1 partner behavioural.
  • Deloitte Audit / Tax: technical rounds on Ind-AS, IFRS, standards on auditing + partner fit.
  • Deloitte USI / GDS (Tech): coding + system knowledge + client-communication scenarios.
  • Human Capital: 1 mini-case + heavy behavioural + a client-role-play.

Consulting case interview — Deloitte's flavour

Deloitte cases skew operational and implementation-heavy compared to McKinsey/BCG's classic profitability cases. Expect prompts like 'Our client is a hospital chain seeing rising OT costs — diagnose and recommend' with a clear implementation ask at the end. Structure with an issue tree, quantify one branch fully, and always land on 3 concrete next steps for a Monday-morning workplan.

Audit & Assurance — what's actually asked

  1. Walk me through the audit of revenue for an e-commerce client.
  2. Difference between Ind-AS 115 and the old revenue recognition standard, with an example.
  3. What are the key audit matters (KAM) and when are they reported?
  4. Explain materiality — planning materiality vs performance materiality.
  5. A client refuses to give you a confirmation — what's your next step under SA 505?

USI / GDS Tech interview

Two coding rounds (LeetCode Easy–Medium; Java/Python/SQL), one project deep-dive, and one behavioural. Deloitte weights client-communication ability heavily — expect at least one question like 'A client thinks your code broke production. Walk me through the next 30 minutes.'

Behavioural questions that appear in every Deloitte loop

  • Why Deloitte — and why this service line specifically?
  • Tell me about a time you managed a difficult stakeholder.
  • Describe a project that failed and what you'd do differently.
  • How do you handle working with someone whose work is below your standard?
  • Where do you see yourself in 3 years and how does Deloitte fit that plan?

Deloitte partners routinely reject 'why Deloitte' answers that could apply to any Big 4. Name a specific practice, a recent Deloitte case study or point of view, and tie it to your goals.

Dress code, timing, and small things that matter

In-person: business formal, no exceptions. Virtual: still business formal on camera. Loops run 3–6 hours; expect gaps between rounds where recruiters observe your patience and energy. Send a thank-you email to every interviewer within 24 hours — not optional at Deloitte.
