The Salary Negotiation Script That Adds ₹3–8 LPA

Most candidates leave money on the table because they don't ask. Here's exactly what to say.

Negotiation isn't confrontation. It's a structured conversation that hiring managers expect — and respect.

The 3-step script

  • Anchor: "Based on my research and the scope of this role, I was hoping for a base in the X–Y range."
  • Pause. Don't fill the silence. Let them respond.
  • Bridge: "What flexibility do you have on base, sign-on, or RSUs?"

When to push

If they say "this is our best offer," ask about non-cash levers: extra PTO, an earlier review cycle, a sign-on bonus, or relocation. Almost every offer has more give than the first number suggests.

Upla, Upplio's AI Career Copilot, roleplays the negotiation with you until you can deliver the script without flinching.
